Fuji SMBE Macquarie’s Lee Mamouzelos named Apprentice of the Year finalist in Australian Manufacturing Awards

Fuji SMBE Macquarie apprentice-turned-project controller, Lee Mamouzelos (pictured above with his family), has been recognised as a finalist in the inaugural Australian Manufacturing Awards (AMA), in the category of Apprentice of the Year.

The AMA – hosted by Industry Update Manufacturing Magazine and held on October 23 in Sydney – celebrated the best of the best in Australia’s manufacturing sector.

Lee began his apprenticeship with Fuji SMBE Macquarie in 2022, quickly demonstrating strong technical skills, leadership qualities, and a keen commitment to learning. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, he developed expertise in building and testing switchboards, while also taking on a mentoring role himself to support newer apprentices.

“Lee showed a fantastic work ethic and attitude, right from the start,” said Peter Silsby, Director of Fuji SMBE Macquarie.

“We could see the value Lee brings to our team, so we offered him a project controller position – and I’m delighted he has jumped at the opportunity.”

“He’s a dedicated apprentice who wholly deserves this nomination, and even if he didn’t take out the win, the entire team at Fuji SMBE Macquarie thought he richly deserved it.”

From Apprentice to Project Controller

In his new role, Lee is responsible for working closely with customers to design, specify, and deliver switchboards that comply with strict Australian Standards, including AS 61439. His responsibilities also extend to project management, technical support, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget.

“There have been new challenges in the role, such as learning how to design switchboards and liaising directly with customers, and Lee is already excelling in these areas too,” added Silsby.

“His positive attitude and eagerness to face new challenges make him an ideal fit for this role, and a very worthy finalist in the Apprentice of the Year category.”
